The Earth From Space

I’ve seen a lot of time-lapse videos over the last couple of years, but this has to be among the top three. The 3.5 million people who’ve watched it in the last six days probably agree.

And here’s the amazing news: You can make a similar video without going into space or even buying a camera. This video was assembled by James Drake from publicly available images from NASA’s archives. Find a series you like, download the photos, and assemble them with free software such as Windows Movie Maker or VirtualDub.

Last year, I made a video of the sun using NASA images and a similar technique.

You can read more about what you’re seeing at Bad Astronomy and Universe Today.

Many apologies to those who are waiting for email responses right now. I’m still settling in from a move and keeping busy. I’ll get back to you soon.
